What is Google?

Google is a search engine program built in order to provide internet related services and products that basically include cloud computing, online advertising, social networking service, and search results.

Larry Page and Sergey Brin, the PHD students of Stanford University, together founded Google owing about 14% of its shares. Being an American multinational technology company, it was a privately owned organization and introduced on September 4, 1998.

Originally it was termed as “Backrub” but eventually the name changed to Google. Its headquarters is in Mountain View, California, and is mentioned as “the Googleplex.”
Services
Advertising- Google earns its main revenue from advertising. It reportedly earned $10.492 billion in total advertising revenues and $112 million in licensing and other sources.

The advertisers can display their advertisements in the Google AdWorlds through cost per click or cost per view scheme.

It provides another service named Google AdSense that permits to display the advertisement on their own website and earn money through per click. Almost 96% of Google’s revenue is earned through advertising programs.

Productive tools- The Gmail is the most productive and free service available publicly. It offers 15GB of free storage facility, connected with Google Apps, and additional storage of 16TB.

Google drive, another productively tool that is used to store and share files, edit documents, spreadsheets, and slides. Beside these, Google has many more features like Hangouts, Docs, Google Calendar, Groups, Sites, and Vaults.

Search engine- Google Search is the superior search engine in the US markets. It has billions of web pages for the users beneficial, so that they get the exact information they are looking for.

It has Google Books where books are scanned and uploaded and is operated as a book search engine. Being one of the notable search engine, it has a market share of nearly 65.6%.

Enterprise products- In 2002, there was a launch of new programme Google Search Appliances, a search technology entirely made for large organization and Mini for smaller organization.

The Gmail and Google Docs get incorporated by the Google Apps and bring them into their own domains.

Translators- The Google translator is a translation machine service that translates 80 different languages. It uses corpus linguistic techniques, handwriting or speech recognition to translate languages.

News service- The Google News Service was launched in 2002 that supplies news to its users by gathering it from many articles and websites.

Mobile application- Google Goggles is an introduced mobile application used for identifying images, landmarks, search non-text materials, and solve puzzles. This is available in Androids and iOS.

The 2011 saw another Google application made for mobile is Google Wallet designed for wireless payments. Recently Google brought forth DeepDream, which too recognizes and create images using artificial neural network.

API’s- This is an application programming interface developed by Google which makes communication with other services easier.

 

Conclusion
Google is the world’s most visited website, having 2 million searches every minute. It has been stated that the world internet traffic dropped by 40% when Google went down for 5 minutes.

The company has around 47,756 employees based in more than 40 offices. It ranks 5th and 2nd in lobbying spending and campaigns for donating technology respectively.
